seven of us

seven of us

Fort Washington, MD

February 07, 2015

Today was exciting for so many reasons. I got to get together with some/make some friends at Fort Washington National Park in Maryland. The day started sort of slow.. arriving at the park around 2:30PM after eating and picking everyone up. Myself and two others (Reidun - 3rd from the right & Skylar - second from the left) got out of the car and met up with 4 others; Alyssa - first on the left, Maddie - 3rd from the left, Maddie's boyfriend - standing next to her, and Chaz - first on the left. Together the seven of us roamed the park looking for places to shoot. Reidun and Skylar did most of the modeling, Maddie and I took the more of the photos. Chaz was there adding his humor and his ideas for poses and places and things. After walking around the actual fort, we made our way over to an abandoned house where Reidun got in one of the windows. The whole house was boarded up except for an open door in the back that we used to get inside. Completely dark and cold and filled with spider webs, the house wasn't a good place to take photos but it sure was awesome. Using flashlights on our phones we went from room to room and in the back of the house there was a staircase to the attack/bedroom. Again it was very dark and hard to see anything but if they hadn't boarded it up it would have made for some amazing photos. Either way today was a great experience, its always fun to get out and to be able to share a passion with so many other people.

This is my first blog post, and for those who can't tell, the photo above is of the New York skyline by night. This was my first time going to the "Top of the Rock" and i shouldn't have done it at night, for the view would've been better during the day. I will have more opportunities though because New York is my second most visited city - after DC, which is where I live. As i travel back and fourth between the two cities, you will see photos of people I meet and the places I go within the cities that I deem worthy of photographing. I use a Canon 5D Mark iii with a kit lens (24-105mm f/4) and I am saving up for better equipment. I have my sights set on a 35mm f/1.4 or something of the sort for portraits and landscapes.  Booked at f/4 is very minimal, and I'm hoping to be able to increase the effect in the future.
